How we operate
At its heart the Wiccan Federation is a network of covens and as a result the way that it operates is quite different to other large pagan organisations.
The Wiccan Federation is based around local networks of Wiccans in cities and towns aroud the UK. The networks are based on Whatsapp groups, so without being part of these Whatsapp groups it isn't possible to play a full part in our network.
Those coming into our network are initially placed in one of five special interest groups, and also to a local group in their area. The local groups typically arrange meetings on an ongoing basis. Some of these are advertised on Meetup, some are not. The local groups are the basis for the covens and members looking to access a coven will find them through the Whatsapp groups.
Once in the Whatsapp groups members will be offered training. This is run centrally through our 13 Knots course. The members who wish to join a coven supported by the Wiccan Federation will typically need to go through the course. Those on the course will be expected to take part in the activities of a coven if they progress beyond the 10th Knot, or lesson. This is typically after ten months on the course.
This approach makes our organisation quite dynamic when it is operating well, and allows people to get to practice initiatory Wicca far more easily than is typically the case outside the Wiccan Federation network. We nurture the practice of coven Wicca rather than focusing on pub meetings or talks, although we do hold these types of events.
